Urban Artist Surge Unveils Mattress Installation to Wake Up Sleep Artists GhostBed Partners with Surge to Launch “The Art of Sleep” Contest
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (April 30, 2016) — Art is everywhere – even in bed, as artist Sergio J. Quinonez, known to fans as Surge, illustrates with his latest installation unveiled today inside C&I Studios at FatVillage ArtWalk in Ft. Lauderdale. One of South Florida’s most recognizable urban pop artists, Surge created this spray paint work on a California King sized GhostBed mattress to officially launch the GhostBed Art of Sleep Contest. The contest seeks works of art inspired by personal perceptions of sleep.
Entries will be accepted beginning on May 1, 2016 and submissions are due by midnight on May 24, 2016. Consumer Sleep Artists’ submissions will be voted on by the public from May 25 through May 31. Cash prizes and GhostBed mattresses will be awarded to winning Sleep Artists. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000, second place will receive $500 and third and fourth place winners will each receive $250. All top four winners will also receive a GhostBed mattress.
The Art of Sleep was commissioned by Marc Werner, CEO and Founder of GhostBed by Nature’s Sleep, after viewing an installation of mattresses turned into artworks at Art Basel/Miami.

The Art of Sleep Contest seeks entries that showcase creativity as well as the fun and the unexpected.
“We’re inviting consumers to create any work of art, from a painting or drawing to a photo that revolves around sleep, a bed or mattress,” said Werner. “We don’t expect you to paint on your mattress, but you can.”
Consumer sleep artist entries can be as simple as taking a picture of the artwork and propping it on a mattress, or it can just be a photo of sleeping in bed. The only boundaries to creatively crafting an Art of Sleep entry are imagination and good taste. There is no purchase necessary and the contest is open to legal U.S. residents residing in the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia, who are eighteen (18) years of age or older. For artists under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must enter the contest on their behalf.
